Weâre all aiming for righteous actions, but in order for those actions to be worth anything in the eyes of Allah, they have to be set by righteous intentions. The Prophet SAW said, âActions are (judged) by motives (niyyah), so each man will have what he intendedâ [Bukhari].â
â
If your intentions are sincere, you donât have to fear, just trust in Allah. But if you still feel an uneasiness in what youâre about to do, then refer to the words of the Prophet SAW, âConsult your heart. Righteousness is that about which the soul feels at ease and the heart feels tranquil. And wrongdoing is that which wavers in the soul and causes uneasiness in the breast, even though people have repeatedly given their legal opinion [in its favour]â [Hambal].â
â
Another hadith to keep in mind is that of feeling shame, âVerily, from what was learnt by the people from the speech of the earliest prophecy is: If you feel no shame, then do as you wishâ [Bukhari]. Shame is an integral part of self-discipline. If you lose your ability to recognise a sin, or feel shame about it, you will have lost everything. Our mistakes are inevitable, but our return to Allah is always there when we recognise that we want to be better. â
â
Our ability to judge by our own reason is subject to the importance Allah has in our life. When Allah is the centre of your entire existence, your heart will know what is right from wrong.â
â
May Allah grant us sincerity, May He guide our actions to righteousness and May He accept our good deeds.â
